Promoting women’s participation in politics has been a top priority in every democratic society. However, the representation of women in Sri Lankan politics is far behind that of the South Asian region, and it must be said that this is an issue that affects the strength of democracy in this country. In addition, Sri Lanka needs to pay more attention to women’s representation in politics in order to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals. Also, political parties have a big role to play in getting more women involved in politics.
